Los Angeles Clippers Need Help On Their Bench

The Los Angeles Clippers lost to the Miami Heat on Sunday in large part due to their bench getting outplayed again. The Heat got a huge game from Chris Bosh, as well as a surprising performance from Hassan Whiteside, who has played well in recent games. The Clippers got solid games from stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, but they just could not compete with the second unit. Jamal Crawford had an off game, and no one else was really able to contribute.

The Clippers cannot expect to make it deep into the playoffs if they cannot trust their bench. Rotations normally get smaller come playoff time, but they still need a couple of reliable players to step up consistently. With the amount of trades happening around the league, it would not be a surprise to see the Clippers reach out to see who’s available. It might mean parting with a key piece, but the organization may have to take a gamble to capitalize on the championship potential of the roster.

Certain teams will be looking to unload players in order to create more cap space as well as to acquire more assets for the future. If one of the younger players does not step up, then the Clippers will need to add to the roster if they to compete in the West. It is unlikely that they will give up on Spencer Hawes after just signing him during the offseason, so they will likely look to the perimeter. They could use another athletic wing to guard the high scorers in the West, as well as possibly another shooter or playmaker to bolster their offense. Either way, if the bench continues to be inconsistent, then the Clippers will need to look to make a move.
