The Portland Trail Blazers are currently in second place in the competitive Western Conference with an impressive 30-8 record. If Portland wants to continue down their successful path, it is imperative the organization makes some quality moves prior to the NBA trade deadline. Here are five players the Trail Blazers should target at the deadline.

Boston Celtics power forward Brandon Bass could be the missing piece Portland needs to add quality depth in the frontcourt, especially with Robin Lopez out for at least another month. Along with the depth, Bass also can knock down mid-range shots, which will help draw out the defense. He will fit right in with Portland due to the aggressiveness he sometimes brings on defense.

Thaddeus Young can’t be impressed with his current situation with the Minnesota Timberwolves. That’s why he would welcome a trade any team, let alone a legitimate playoff contender. Young’s ability to score around the basket and on the perimeter makes him a legitimate threat on the court. The Trail Blazers could use that to beef up their already impressive 103.8 points per game. Plus, his decent shooting would improve the team shot percentage.

It’s no secret Kevin Martin’s talents are being wasted on the lowly Timberwolves this season. It’s also no secret the T-Wolves are interested in getting something for him considering the outstanding season he’s having. Acquiring Martin to be a lethal threat off the bench would be one of the best moves Portland could make prior to the trade deadline. In fact, his 20.4 ppg might just be what the Trail Blazers need to reach the NBA Finals.

2. Wilson Chandler, SF

If Portland wants Wilson Chandler, all they have to do is give up a first-round draft pick for him. As of right now, the Trail Blazers are unsure if it’s worth it. Chandler has been one of the Denver Nuggets’ lone bright spots this season. His ability to score at will and defend several positions on the court makes him an ideal candidate for a Trail Blazers team that is looking to do some serious damage down the stretch and in the playoffs.

With the New York Knicks dive-bombing the remainder of the season, they will be looking to rid themselves of everyone they can in order to rebuild. That includes guard Jose Calderon. If there’s anyone Portland acquires prior to the trade deadline, it will most likely be him. Despite Calderon struggling a bit this season, the Trail Blazers are interested in adding a veteran to the point guard depth. Plus, he has a leadership quality about him.
