Throughout his six-year career, Stephen Curry has battled a series of chronic ankle injuries. These ongoing ankle problems have caused Curry to miss his fair share of games over the years. Knock on wood, Curry has not had any serious problems with his ankles this season. Not missing any games so far has been one of the main reasons for all of Curry’s success during the 2014-15 season.

This season has been filled with obstacles for both Stephen Curry and the Warriors. To begin the year the team had to adjust to Steve Kerr replacing Mark Jackson as head coach. Then, they had to deal with Klay Thompson’s name being thrown around in trade rumors. During the year, they have had to overcome injuries to starters Andrew Bogut and David Lee. Overcoming all of these obstacles has helped Curry ascend to the front of the MVP race.

All throughout his career, Curry has had the reputation of being a prolific three-point shooter. But this year, he has become a complete scorer. Curry currently stands seventh in the NBA in points per game (22.9). He is also shooting almost 50 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the three-point line. Curry’s improved offensive game has made him one of the most must-see players in the entire league.

Along with becoming a complete scorer, Curry has also been able to morph into a complete all-around player. Yes, his scoring statistics are off the charts, but so too are his other numbers. Currently Curry is first in the NBA in steals per game. He also ranks fifth in assists per game and fourth in rebounds per game among point guards. Curry’s evolution into an all-around player has helped him become the front-runner for this year’s MVP award.

The MVP award may be given to the player with the best individual stats, but usually that player’s team also has to have some level of success. This season, Curry’s Warriors have the best record in the NBA and are on pace for a total of 70 wins. Playing in the tough Western Conference makes this feat even more impressive. Great individual statistics plus the league’s best record is reason enough for Curry to be the front-runner for the MVP award.
