Chris Bosh Is Becoming Just Another Guy With Miami Heat

Committing 21 turnovers and five in the first three and a half minutes makes it almost impossible not to write another story about the Miami Heat being sloppy and throwing away another game in the second half.

But how about I try something different. Instead of focusing on those norms or coach Erik Spoelstra’s terrible decisions — like having the tortoise known as Danny Granger guarding Kevin Durant — let’s turn our attention to a regressing star.

This season was supposed to be Chris Bosh’s breakout year as the go-to guy. And it looked like he was poised to make it happen after averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds through the first two months of the season. It was surely what he envisioned when he dodged going to the Houston Rockets in his quest to avoid being stuck in another Big Three situation.

But some way he still managed to disappear as if he still had LeBron James on the court. Almost every night feels like he spends most of his time stuck in third wheel mode rather than being the Batman or Robin to Dwyane Wade. And the situation is not helped when he continues to drift further from the rim after vowing to “get in the post a lot more” because “I’m a lot deadlier when I get in the post.”

Refusing to stick to that plan has even caused his rebounding numbers to drop enough to have coach Spoelstra ask him not to neglect his glass cleaning duties just because Hassan Whiteside has been dominating the boards. Not to mention that 10 of Bosh’s 33 games have seen him shooting only as high as 39 percent from the field to as low as 12 — resulting in his worst total shooting percentage (.474) since his rookie and sophomore years as a Toronto Raptor.

Truth be told, beyond the surface stats and averages, Bosh is clearly becoming a player who refuses to step up when the team needs him most. Now he looks like just another player.
