Despite winning the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award last season, the Philadelphia 76ers seem to be heavily shopping point guard Michael Carter-Williams. Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Inquirer even writes that “the Sixers need to be concerned about Carter-Williams’ shooting and that they should be searching for trade partners.” With that being said, here are five teams that could target Carter-Williams before the trade deadline.

With Brandon Jennings now out for an extended period of time due to an Achilles injury, the Pistons need to be in search of a replacement. Despite Stan Van Gundy saying that the Pistons don’t want to take on money for next season, Carter-Williams has a cap-friendly contract for the next few years. The Pistons may have to give up a few assets, but it could be a sound investment since Jennings’ future remains unclear.

For a while now the Sacramento Kings have been mentioned as possible suitors for Michael Carter-Williams. With their fast start now completely behind them, the Kings find themselves in a familiar position at the bottom of the standings. With the 2014-15 season soon to be a wash, the Kings could start making adjustments to their roster for next season and beyond. Acquiring Carter-Williams would help jump-start this process.

The Boston Celtics franchise is currently trying to rebuild as quickly as possible. Acquiring a point guard like Michael Carter-Williams could help to accelerate this process. A native of nearby Hamilton, Mass., Carter-Williams could be a guy the Celtics rebuild around. With a plethora of first-round draft picks over the next four years – including possibly four this season – the Celtics have plenty of assets to pull off this trade.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Rockets will be trying to stockpile as much talent as they can in order to make a deep run into this season’s NBA Playoffs. A spot where they could use a little help at right now is the point guard position. With the Pelicans’ protected first-round pick and forward Terrence Jones in hand, the Rockets have plenty to give their former assistant general manager Sam Hinkie in exchange for Carter-Williams.

The more the 2014-15 season unfolds, the more it becomes clear that the Los Angeles Lakers need a complete facelift. With little to no talent worth saving on their current roster, the Lakers need to quickly bring in as much talent as they possibly can. Possessing their own and Houston’s 2015 first-round draft pick, the Lakers have some assets to acquire Michael Carter-Williams – a player they have been linked to since last summer.
