NBA Miami Heat

Miami Heat Continue To Hit New Lows With Latest Boneheaded Loss

Just when you thought things could not get any worse for the Miami Heat, they find a way to top Pete Carroll for the week’s most boneheaded blunder. Granted there were no championships involved, but I will paint the picture anyway.

Kevin Martin sinks a jump shot with 39 seconds left to put the Minnesota Timberwolves up by a point and Norris Cole proceeds to toss the ball in to Hassan Whiteside. Then for some reason he instructs his 7-foot center to step out of bounds and toss the ball in to him — ignoring the fact that he, himself already made the inbound pass.

It was probably the most foolish turnover in Heat history. On a night where Cole had his first foray into double digits — in the last 19 outings — he managed to pull Whiteside into squandering his first 20-point, 20-rebound game. The fact that Miami still had two chances to win and couldn’t only makes things more embarrassing.

If you look even deeper, you will see a Heat team that hit a new low by losing to the only team in the NBA without double-digit wins. And to make matters more confusing, their defense is No. 2 in points allowed (96.3PPG) but they gave up 102 points to a team that averages 97 and allows 107. This could never add up well for Miami, because they are 1-20 when allowing opponents to top the century mark.

Those are the types of things that should never happen with Bosh, Whiteside and Luol Deng patrolling your frontcourt — regardless of if Dwyane Wade is in or out. But as the season goes on, it’s more likely that the Heat will continue to drop to lower levels before they get an opportunity to rise.
