It goes without saying the health of a professional athlete is more important than anything else is. That is why shutting down forward Chris Bosh for the rest of the season will be the best move for the Miami Heat after it was revealed he might have a blood clot in his lung, even if losing Bosh could cost the Heat a playoff berth.

After complaining about discomfort in his chest throughout the week, Bosh was admitted to a hospital in Miami where tests where done on his lungs. Doctors have found symptoms of a blood clot, but there has yet to be a confirmation because they want to be sure that their tests are correct before making a diagnosis. Considering former NBA star player Jerome Kersey died from a blood clot earlier this week, it proves it is something not to mess around with.

If Bosh does indeed have a blood clot, being forced to sit out the remainder of the season is the least of his problems. The medication used to treat a blood clot will require him to miss all physical activity for at least six months. After that, he will have to ease his way back to make sure no harm will be done to him.

The news of Bosh’s situation comes one day after Miami made a blockbuster trade for Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic. Many believe the deal put the Heat in a great position to climb the Eastern Conference standings and make a legitimate playoff push. There is no denying the combination of Dwyane Wade, Hassan Whiteside, Luol Deng, Bosh and Dragic has the potential to be devastating for opponents.

Of course, the success only occurs if Bosh is able to play. It goes without saying that he is a huge impact player for Miami, which is why the team could be in trouble without him.

Whether it is a blood clot or not, the 30-year-old’s health needs to be the top priority going forward, which is why it is good news he is already taking the necessary precautions.
