The NBA season is long, and with its myriad back-to-backs, it is also grueling. As the year wears on, many teams appear to play as if worn out. Here are five NBA clubs feeling the brutal effects of the schedule as the season winds down.

Remember the playoff buzz humming around the Detroit Pistons before the All-Star break? Consider it squashed. The Pistons are currently backsliding on a seven-game losing streak, and with games remaining against the Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks, the Pistons’ playoff chances look hopeless.

The Washington Wizards once appeared to be making a threatening run toward the No. 1 seed in the Eastern conference. Now the Wizards sit at No. 5 and are losers of seven of their last 10 games. The eighth seed sits just eight games back, but not outside of plummeting distance.

3. Dallas Mavericks

In the intensely competitive Western conference, it’s unacceptable for a potential playoff team to play .500 basketball, and that is why the Dallas Mavericks have made this list. The Mavs currently hold the West’s seventh seed, but a lot can change in the final month of the NBA season.

Jason Kidd had a fruitful start with the Milwaukee Bucks, but it could all amount to a disappointing finish. The Bucks have lost seven of their last 10, and are set to plummet out of playoff contention.

1. Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are on pace to overshoot the meaning of "plummet." Toronto has dropped nine of its last 10 games. In just two weeks, the Raptors have fallen from the Eastern conference’s second seed down to fourth. If Toronto doesn’t achieve a turnaround, the Raptors’ playoff picture will get even more cloudy.
