The NBA playoff series between the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks was seen as a mere formality to most. Nearly everyone thought that the Bulls would simply roll past the Bucks and on to the Conference Semi-Finals.

Milwaukee was just 41-41 during the regular season compared to a 50-32 record for the Bulls. The Bucks had traded their leading scorer, Brandon Knight, during the season, so hopes were not high for Milwaukee in the playoffs.

But the Bucks apparently didn’t get the memo. Milwaukee didn’t know they were supposed to let the Bulls run over them in this series. The Bucks showed that they are not going away easily, winning on Monday night in Chicago 94-88 to cut the Bulls’ advantage to 3-2 in the series. Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday night in Milwaukee, where the Bucks could even the series and force a Game 7.

Head coach Jason Kidd deserves a ton of credit for his team staying in this series. The Bucks lost the first three games of the series and easily could have folded in Game 4. But Milwaukee found a way to win, beating the Bulls 92-90 to extend the series.

And on Monday night, they made this a real series. Chicago, a heavy favorite, now faces a road game which could even the series on Thursday.

Milwaukee clearly is not as talented as Chicago. The Bucks are staying in this series by relying on Michael Carter-Williams, Khris Middleton and John Henson and a whole lot of defense. That’s not exactly murderers’ row, but it has been enough to extend this series. And if the Bucks can force a Game 7, anything can happen.
