5 Free Agents the Boston Celtics Should Avoid This Offseason

This summer will certainly be exciting when it comes to NBA free agency. There are a lot of stars out there, but not every one will fit in on just any team. Here are five players the Boston Celtics would be wise to stay away from.

Other than a scoring option off the bench, Stuckey provides very little. He can be inefficient at times as he's not afraid to hoist up 10 or more shots every night. The Celtics already have a proven scorer off the bench in Isaiah Thomas. He's also demonstrated the ability to run the Celtics' offense and distribute the basketball better than Stuckey.

4. Wesley Matthews

Matthews was likely headed for a good payday before he tore his Achilles. Given that it happened on such a routine play, one has to wonder if that will affect the mentality and aggression of Matthews. There's no telling if he will be the same player once he returns to the floor.

3. Kevin Love

With the way Love's season ended, he's probably not entertaining the idea of joining the Celtics. That's good news for Boston. The injury he suffered at the hands of Kelly Olynyk will likely cause him to miss the beginning of the season. His points per game and rebounds per game were down this year, and he never truly fit in with the Cavaliers. His subpar defensive skills lower his value to the Celtics.

2. Greg Monroe

The Celtics need a big man who can rebound and protect the rim. Monroe is a terrific rebounder but a slow, below-average defender. Though a very talented offensive player, Monroe's scoring ability significantly diminishes as he moves further from the basket. His inability to stretch the floor and open up driving lanes would not mesh well with guys like Marcus Smart and Isaiah Thomas.

Numbers don't lie. Teams with Josh Smith don't win as much as they do without him. He has loads of talent, but has never been able to reach his full potential. He can be a selfish player at some times and is not the kind of veteran presence Brad Stevens would want in his locker room. He was once pegged as a good fit to play alongside Rajon Rondo, so that should say enough about his character.

Dwight Howard Requests Dab From Young Fan In Exchange For Jersey

Dwight Howard is oftentimes criticized for being a diva, and I'm sure some of it is warranted. However, during Houston's recent trip to Boston, he did something pretty awesome. Howard gave a young Celtics fan his jersey in exchange for a dab, and it clearly made the kid's day.

Celtics' Hunter Can't Believe Isaiah Thomas Denied Handshake

Things aren't easy for NBA rookies. Not only do many of them not get to play much, but they also don't get an incredible amount of respect from their veteran teammates. This was the case recently for former Georgia State standout R.J. Hunter, who was savagely rejected by Isaiah Thomas when he offered him a congratulatory handshake.

Watch Isaiah Thomas' Behind-The-Head Kickout For Three-Pointer

Isaiah Thomas may have wanted to get all the way to the rim, but his no-look, behind-the-head pass to an open teammate is a candidate for assist of the year in the NBA.
