Tuesday morning the Philadelphia 76ers unveiled the franchise’s new primary logo as well as three other secondary logos.

After yet another disappointing season, the real excitement for the 76ers begins in just about a week from now at the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery. At this event, the 76ers will learn what pick they will have in this summer’s upcoming draft. In preparation for the draft lottery, the Sixers decided to unveil four new logos that the franchise will use going forward.

While the new primary logo may be reminiscent of the Brooklyn Nets‘ logo — one that was unveiled back in 2012 when the Nets made their move from New Jersey to Brooklyn — it is clearly a better looking logo than the franchise’s previous one that featured an undesirable red box around the primary ball logo.

Overall, the franchise’s new primary logo and partial primary logo are not much different than what 76ers fans have been used to for most of the franchise’s 52-year existence. However, two of the franchise’s new secondary logos are much different – especially the one that features Benjamin Franklin dribbling a basketball. While this logo may work well when it comes to a marketing initiative or when it comes to selling merchandise, it may not work well with basketball purists who are likely to view this new secondary logo as childish.

The 76ers will continue to re-brand their franchise later this summer when they unveil a new set of uniforms on June 18 just in time for the 2015 NBA Draft.

Noel Emphatically Posterizes Drummond

With Jahlil Okafor out for the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons, Nerlens Noel had an opportunity to shine, and he took advantage. Noel makes Andre Drummond look feeble on this play, and that isn't an easy thing to do.
