Miami Heat Must Sign A Veteran Center This Offseason

The Miami Heat have another reason to be optimistic about this summer after the NBA Draft Lottery guaranteed them the No. 10 overall pick. There was a sigh of relief from Heat Nation because had the pick been No. 11 or lower, it would have gone to the Philadelphia 76ers. That’s all smoke in the wind, and Pat Riley now has a versatile piece that can be used for either a prospect or a trade.

Other than the draft, Miami still has plenty to focus on this offseason and they need to make some key signings in free agency. Between Goran Dragic and a couple of other player options, the Heat don’t have a clear and concise plan for the summer, but here is something that should be at the top of the list: Sign a veteran big man.

Miami has one more inexpensive year to continue to develop Hassan Whiteside into a powerful center like many think he can become. Depending on his progress and season, Whiteside could be looking for big money in 2016, but that’s besides the point. What the Heat need to do right now is sign a veteran to help develop Whiteside and bring some power to the bench.

There are plenty of household names to choose from, such as Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudemire. Chris Kaman could also become available if the Portland Trail Blazers don’t pick up the option on his contract. However, there is one name that sticks out to me and it could be a long shot.

Jermaine O’Neal had been eying a comeback, but called it off because he didn’t feel in good enough shape. So, one would think he is continuing to work out and prepare for next season. He hasn’t announced that he is retired, and O’Neal still desperately wants that ring. As for Miami, he is exactly what the team and Whiteside need. Again, it’s probably a farfetched idea, but there is history between the two sides.

Kenneth Faried Throws Down Monstrous Alley-oop On Miami Heat

Kenneth Faried is one of the hardest NBA players to figure out. He flashes All-Star caliber brilliance some games, and pulls disappearing acts during others. Against the Miami Heat on Monday night, Faried was back doing the type of stuff that earned him the 'Manimal' nickname, as evidenced by his finish on this epic alley-oop.
