Free Agents the Phoenix Suns Should Target in 2015 Offseason

At the beginning of this past NBA season, the Phoenix Suns were starting to resemble a formidable team out West. Unfortunately, after injuries and a major trade that sent their star point guard Goran Dragic to Miami, the Suns plummeted completely out of the playoff race. This summer will be their opportunity to retool and once again compete for a chance to vie for a playoff spot. Here are five free agents the Phoenix Suns should target in 2015.

5. Maurice Williams

The Suns are woefully short-handed at the backup point guard position; so going after a player of Maurice Williams’ caliber is extremely logical. The Suns need offense off of the bench from their backcourt and Williams can provide that exact type of offense to jumpstart the second unit. He averaged 17.2 points and 6.0 assists with the Hornets this past season. More importantly, he shot over 40 percent from the field and 35 percent from deep.

4. Luol Deng

Luol Deng would be the perfect small forward for the Suns' point guard-oriented offense. Deng is a notorious slasher and would play off the ball very well with starting point guard Eric Bledsoe. Deng has also improved upon his three-point shooting, so his ability to space the floor should not be overstated. The Suns don’t really have any small forwards on the roster with Deng’s offensive and defensive capabilities.

3. Patrick Beverley

Patrick Beverley is the exact type of prototypical defensive point guard the Phoenix Suns need backing up Eric Bledsoe in the rotation next season. The Suns' overall backcourt defense was atrocious last year, and Beverley would be a huge boost in this key area. Beverley also has begun to develop a quality offensive game, which would only be a bonus in the lineup.

2. DeAndre Jordan

No offense to Phoenix starting center Alex Len, but the Suns need a better option. Why not go all in on one of the best centers to hit free agency this summer? DeAndre Jordan would be a massive addition to the Suns' frontcourt, and would provide the type of defensive boost this team needs to elevate in the Western Conference standings. Jordan averaged 15.0 rebounds a game this past season, something none of the Suns' centers have done this year.

1. Draymond Green

If the Suns are looking for a franchise changing frontcourt player, look no further than potential free agent Draymond Green. The 2015 NBA Playoffs have really showcased what Green can do on both sides of the ball, averaging 13.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals against some of the toughest teams out West. Green can play at least three different positions, which makes him a perfect fit on any NBA roster, especially the Suns.

Watch Suns' Morris Attack His Own Teammate Goodwin

Just when it looked like Markieff Morris was ready to put all of the shenanigans behind him and focus on basketball, he does something stupid again. This time, he got so infuriated with teammate Archie Goodwin that he attacked him inside the Suns' timeout huddle. He not only shoved him, but he attempted to choke Goodwin which is way over the line.

Archie Goodwin Hits Epic Game-Winning Three

The Phoenix Suns are legit playing without five or six important members of their rotation currently, so guys who don't normally make the highlight reels are getting an incredible amount of playing time. This is the case for Archie Goodwin, who started at point guard in Brandon Knight's absence and hit this improbable three with time running out to cement a 98-95 win. Things haven't been go swimmingly in Phoenix this season, so it was awesome to see Suns fans and players alike enjoy this hard-fought win.
