Shockingly, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall was overlooked for all three All-NBA teams on Thursday. Instead of complaining about missing out on the achievement, Wall has decided to use the snub as motivation for next season.

In his fifth season in the league, Wall posted career highs in rebounds per game (4.6), assists per game (10.0) and field goal percentage (0.445). In fact, his 10.0 assists per contest ranked second in the NBA behind only Chris Paul, while his 40 double doubles tied Paul to be good enough for the best among guards. More importantly, his assist per turnovers increased to a career-best 2.61, and his 36.61 NBA rating last season was his best since arriving on the professional scene.
Wall clearly progressed as a player, but unfortunately, it was not good enough to beat out the likes of Stephen Curry, James Harden, Paul, Russell Westbrook, Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving. The only squad he should have made was the All-NBA third team. However, Irving beat him out by 62 votes.
Even though several players around the league, including Wall’s teammates, were shocked to see him fail to be elected to one of the All-NBA teams, it does not automatically mean he did enough to earn a spot. In some regard, it is better Wall did not receive the achievement, because now he can continue to focus on becoming a better player the Wizards need if they want to continue reaching the playoffs.

One could make the case Wall deserved to have Irving’s spot, but the decision to snub him could very well work in his favor in the long run.
