It is hilarious how professional athletes believe they can easily transition to the film industry. I am not saying it is impossible to do, especially when there are several athletes who have done it. However, for big-name stars to talk as if their second career is going to be as an actor is absolutely ridiculous.
Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has appeared in a cameo role in an episode of the HBO television show ‘Entourage,’ and he has voiced a character in his animated show ‘The LeBrons.’ He also will make an appearance in director/producer Judd Apatow’s new film titled ‘Trainwreck.’
After getting a taste of what Hollywood is all about, James now believes he is capable of starring in action-packed films. More specifically, he thinks he could handle the role of Batman in a movie.
“I always talked about it as a kid, and even as an adult,” James said, according to CBS Sports. “I was like, ‘Wow, you know, I always wanted to be the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.’ And then when I got older, the Bad Boys movies, I was like, ‘I would love to do an action movie.’ Either be, like, a cop or something, or be, like, Batman. Hopefully I can do some more things. Maybe, we’ll see.”
James has a small track record in the industry, but that does not mean he is ready to become the star of a film franchise. The biggest reason is because his acting is not that good. I understand it is impossible to know if he has any true talent based on the small sample size. Not to mention, his Nike commercials featuring The LeBrons were somewhat humorous. With that said, he was stiff in ‘Entourage,’ and he does not seem capable of playing a role other than a version of himself.
It is clear from his comment that his desire to play Batman is more or less wishful thinking. However, he also insinuates that he wants acting to become a major part of his life once basketball is done. If he actually believes he can pull it off, then more power to him. But, please, just leave Batman alone.
