Washington Wizards Should Select Trey Lyles in 2015 NBA Draft

The Washington Wizards need a better backup big man based on what happened against the Atlanta Hawks. Kris Humphries and Nene Hilario are not good enough to get it done in the playoffs, and Trey Lyles just might be the man for the job. Lyles was one of many stars on the Kentucky Wildcats last season, but he was competing against NBA-level competition every day during practice in the form of Karl-Anthony Towns, Dakari Johnson, and Willie Cauley-Stein.

Lyles could be the perfect addition to the Wizards and offer Marcin Gortat crucial help off the bench if “The Polish Hammer” has any other illnesses pop up in the 2015-2016 season. Yahoo Sports currently has Lyles going No. 17 overall to the Milwaukee Bucks, but Washington could get lucky and see him slip to them with the No. 19 overall pick.

Lyles put up solid numbers in his lone season with the Wildcats, and his 8.7 PPG and 5.2 RPG in only 23 MPG showed how versatile he is as a player. He also has a nice midrange game, but he needs to develop his three-point shot a bit more for today’s evolving NBA.

Lyles doesn’t do anything at an elite level, but he does everything pretty well. That makes him a great fit for the Wizards, because John Wall is able to set up his teammates in so many different ways. Lyles is a decent athlete; however, it is his basketball IQ and smoothness on the fast break that would make him a lethal pairing with Wall. The Wizards would be wise to grab Lyles if he is still available in this summer’s NBA Draft.

Wizards' Drew Gooden Turns Bizarre Possession Into And-One Chance

This has to go down as one of the strangest plays in the NBA this season. Washington's Drew Gooden throws a bad pass which bounces right back to him, and then manages to turn a feeble shot attempt into an and-one opportunity thanks to boneheaded defense from Derrick Favors. Sadly, Gooden missed the subsequent free-throw attempt.
