Milwaukee Bucks’ Jared Dudley Foolishly Criticizes New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony

Jared Dudley NBA Milwaukee Bucks

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Shots fired! Jared Dudley of the Milwaukee Bucks was on ESPN on May 27 and had an awful lot to say about players who are undoubtedly better than he is. Among the list of Dudley’s victims were Kobe BryantJames HardenKevin Love and perhaps most definitively, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.

Dudley was asked by ESPN’s Colin Cowherd who he thinks is the most overrated player in the NBA. To this, Dudley replied, “The reason why I say Carmelo is because Carmelo is viewed as a top-5 player…He has the talent to be able to facilitate…Defensively he’s gotta take the next level up. Carmelo, you know, you gotta get out. You gotta get out of the first, second round. You gotta get teams to the playoffs. Lebron (James) with that roster, they would’ve gotten to the playoffs.”

Dudley has averaged 8.5 points per game in his eight-year career. He’s averaged 3.4 rebounds per game. He’s also averaged 1.5 assists per game. Are you wondering why those numbers aren’t jumping off the screen at you? It’s because they’re pedestrian. Dudley’s one noteworthy career statistic is his 3-point percentage of 39.6. Dudley has a career Player Efficiency Rating of 13.6 — the league average is 15. Over the course of his career, he has provided an estimate of 33.1 win shares.

In 29 career playoff games, Dudley has scored 5.9 points per game. He made it to the Western Conference Finals is the 2009-10 season with the Phoenix Suns, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers. The conference finals are as far as Dudley has ever made it in the postseason — just like Anthony.

In comparison, Anthony has averaged 25.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 per game in his career. He has a career PER of 21.2. Anthony has provided an estimate of 86 win shares. In the 66 playoffs games Anthony has played in, he’s averaged 25.7 points. He made it to the Western Conference Finals in the 2008-09 season, but has yet to advance beyond the second round since.

Dudley is already backtracking. He had this to say in response to a tweet after making his comments on ESPN:

For a player whose career has been nothing more than mediocre, it’s odd that Dudley would criticize Anthony and other top NBA players. His comments, however, will draw some attention to the first meeting between the Knicks and Bucks in the 2015-16 season, a game that otherwise would have been largely overlooked. We’ll see if Anthony responds verbally, since he will almost certainly be asked about Dudley’s comments, or if he brushes it off and substitutes buckets for words.

Matt Barnes Follows John Henson Into Tunnel After Double Ejection

John Henson and Matt Barnes got into it on Thursday evening. After Henson emphatically rejected Barnes, he showcased an outrageous stink face, and Barnes took exception. Both players were ejected, and Barnes subsequently followed Henson down the tunnel to the Bucks' locker room. Henson was seen with a scrape on his face after the game, so it's fair to assume to two weren't discussing their NCAA tournament brackets in the bowels of BMO Harris Bradley Center.
