Washington Wizards Should Explore Trade Options for DeJuan Blair

DeJuan Blair did not get any playing time this postseason. As far as I’m concerned, that was the final sign that Blair will not be a member of the Washington Wizards in the 2015-16 season.

I posted recently that Blair might be part of a trade package to get Kevin Love, but the Cleveland Cavaliers may look to sign him long-term. That would surprise me after the recent comments from LeBron James about Tristan Thompson; however, perhaps David Griffin will overrule LeBron on this one and ink the PF to a four-year deal.

If the Wizards can’t land a big fish like Love in the offseason, then maybe Blair could be used as a chip to help their bench depth. Ramon Sessions and Otto Porter Jr. are nice players, but the Wizards could get a better backup PG than Sessions in a trade package and Porter will most likely be starting in Paul Pierce‘s place next year.

Maybe Pierce will be fine with coming off the bench to start games and finishing fourth quarters, and yet it seems more probable that he will bounce for the Los Angeles Clippers in my opinion. Pierce knows a good head coach when he sees one, and we all realize how he feels about Doc Rivers. But he also knows a bad coach when he sees one, and that does not bode well for Randy Wittman. It might be time for the Wizards to accept the reality that Pierce is going to finish off his career back home in California. That means their bench will need to get strengthened in some ways, and trading Blair could be just what the doctor ordered for Washington to improve their reserve players.

Wizards' Drew Gooden Turns Bizarre Possession Into And-One Chance

This has to go down as one of the strangest plays in the NBA this season. Washington's Drew Gooden throws a bad pass which bounces right back to him, and then manages to turn a feeble shot attempt into an and-one opportunity thanks to boneheaded defense from Derrick Favors. Sadly, Gooden missed the subsequent free-throw attempt.
