Dallas Mavericks Need To Trade To Compete Again

The Dallas Mavericks are running thin on time. If they want to make another run towards the Finals with Dirk Nowitzki still in Dallas, they must trade in order compete. Many player contracts have expired this offseason, so now it's up to management to make the correct trades and acquisitions. Here are 5 trades they need to consider.

I'll be frank, I do not in any way think the Mavericks should trade Dirk Nowitzki. He is too important, and an all-time great. However, Dallas does need to decide what they are going to focus on in the next few years. Should they give Dirk Nowitzki another shot at a title, or rebuild through youth and the upcoming draft? I highly recommend the former, but in order to do that they need to trade some second-grade key players. Here's to hoping.

Again, I don't recommend them trading Felton. However, Dallas has constantly shown that they give way too much respect to teammate Devin Harris. Plus, Felton is still on the verge of coming back from his off-the-court issues, so I don't know where his head is. The Mavericks will re-sign point guard J.J Barea though, and they have Harris for another year too, so Felton by default is the odd man out.

It is recommended that Harris finds work elsewhere. Don't get me wrong though, he is a pretty effective point guard off the bench. But if Felton is kept as per my recommendation, then they should part ways with Harris. Plus, Harris' biggest attribute is his quickness, and Dallas already has this in spades with J.J. Barea once they re-sign him. It's better to rely on a scorer off the bench like Felton would provide. Good luck down the road, Devin.

2. SG - Monte Ellis

Ellis in an interesting guy. He can shoot himself into a ball game at times, but he is rarely effective. He is way too risky to be a first option on a really good team, let alone a second. Dirk Nowitzki's time is running out, and if the Mavs really want a good chance at winning the title again before he retires, they will need to go in a different direction. I suggest someone a little more reliable.

1. SF - Chandler Parsons

The Mavericks gave Parsons a big contract after he left the Houston Rockets last year, and I'm betting they wish they hadn't. If somebody is willing to take his huge contract, then by all means he should be traded. Dallas has someone by the name of Al-Farouq Aminu who is anxiously awaiting his spot in the lineup. Amino is the better player, so it only makes sense to trade Parsons and get a sizable return.

5 Players Who Won't Be Back With Mavericks Next Season

Breaking News

After losing DeAndre Jordan in the worst way imaginable, the Dallas Mavericks looked to be a broken team. No one was expecting them to make the playoffs. Still, the Mavs are one of the older teams in the league and they will definitely try to get younger in the offseason. These are five guys who won't be around in 2016-17.

Dirk Nails Game-Winner, Gets Love From Kobe

Kobe Bryant wasn't able to lace up for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, but he still managed to make the highlight reels on multiple occasions. After Dirk Nowitzki nailed what turned out to be the game-winning jumper, he stumbled backward into Bryant and received a pat of approval. This encounter is the definition of the saying 'game recognizes game' as the two players are both legends and future Hall of Famers.

Josh Smith Fakes Dirk Nowitzki Out of His Shoes

Josh Smith has returned to the Houston Rockets via trade, and he made the most of his first game back. He scored 16 points off the bench, including this drive on Dirk Nowitzki that made Smith look like Hakeem Olajuwon. Could Ty Lawson and Josh Smith be the spark duo off the bench that rejuvenates this Rockets team?
