The Los Angeles Lakers selected Robert Sacre late in the second round, and it was unclear whether he would even make the team in his first season. The team liked his size and the way he battled, and he was able to earn one of the last spots. He quickly became known for his sideline celebrations and seemed to enjoy being a part of the Lakers. He has received a decent amount of playing time the past two seasons due to all of the injuries, although his impact on the game still remains low. With that being said, he has a very team friendly contract, and the Lakers should consider picking up his team option for next season.
There are not many seven-footers around the league, and having one deep on your bench can be useful at times. Sacre is a hard worker who understands his role when he enters the game and never backs down from anyone. He plays tough on defense and challenges a lot of shots in the paint by sheer determination. He is more than willing to give hard basketball fouls to make players earn it at the free-throw line.
Offensively he has slowly begun to develop a mid-range shot, although he does not offer much on this end of the court. Any basket the team gets from him is a bonus, but he does make opposing players work with his movement, screens and ability to go after offensive rebounds.
He may not be a star player or even a statistic-producing rotational player, but Sacre is still a good person to have on the end of the bench. He knows what his job is when he steps on the court, and the team knows what they are going to get out of him. He has size and a good work ethic, and has now been around the organization for three years. His cap hit still remains small, and the financial impact would be minimal if the teams keeps him for one more season.
