5 Biggest Boston Celtics Free Agency Rumors

With their combination of draft picks and cap space, the Boston Celtics have the potential to make big moves this summer. They have been linked to some big names in free agency, as well as in trade talks. The Celtics are not normally a popular destination for free agents, but with a young coach and a team on the rise, players may think twice about Beantown this year. Here are five of the biggest rumors surrounding the Celtics as we enter June.

Koufos would be a great fit in Boston as he has become an exceptional rim protector playing behind Marc Gasol the past two seasons. While Memphis has expressed a desire to keep him, Gasol is priority No. 1 for them. Koufos is also in search of a starting role, something the Celtics could provide that Memphis cannot. Koufos' team-first attitude would mesh well with Brad Stevens and the rest of the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics continue to express interest in trading up in this year's NBA Draft. The team has two first-round picks this year, as well as a stockpile of future picks. Willie Cauley-Stein has been linked to their desire to trade up. If this were to come to fruition, it would have a ripple effect on the entire offseason for the Celtics. They would no longer need to target rim protection and could turn their attention towards other pressing needs.

3. Celtics Will Make an Offer for DeMarcus Cousins

Vlade Divac and George Karl may disagree on the availability of DeMarcus Cousins, but they'd be foolish not to listen to offers for him. The Celtics are prepared to make a push for one of the most dominant big men in the league. Cousins is a 20-plus point, 10-plus rebound-per-game player with underrated passing abilities as well. One has to wonder how long he can stay motivated on a team like Sacramento, which may force their hand.

2. The Celtics Will Attempt to Sign Kevin Love

The Celtics wanted Love last year before he ended up in Cleveland, and are expected to at least make him an offer this summer also. Now that he has supposedly patched things up with Kelly Olynyk, he may be willing to hear them out. Though Love has repeatedly said he intends to stay in Cleveland, the reality is that he controls his own destiny. If he is presented with a good enough offer, he may think twice about exercising his player option.

1. Celtics Will Target LaMarcus Aldridge

Danny Ainge has said that the Celtics are prepared to make big moves this offseason. Aldridge's scoring and rebounding ability would give the Celtics a legitimate low-post threat. The team has the cap space to afford Aldridge but Boston is normally not a top choice for free agents. Aldridge to the Celtics is unlikely, but it's one of the biggest names the Celtics have been linked to, and you can bet they will make a serious run at him.

Dwight Howard is oftentimes criticized for being a diva, and I'm sure some of it is warranted. However, during Houston's recent trip to Boston, he did something pretty awesome. Howard gave a young Celtics fan his jersey in exchange for a dab, and it clearly made the kid's day.

Celtics' Hunter Can't Believe Isaiah Thomas Denied Handshake

Things aren't easy for NBA rookies. Not only do many of them not get to play much, but they also don't get an incredible amount of respect from their veteran teammates. This was the case recently for former Georgia State standout R.J. Hunter, who was savagely rejected by Isaiah Thomas when he offered him a congratulatory handshake.
