We all know that Tobias Harris of the Orlando Magic will get looks from desperate teams this offseason.
Harris’ skills are well-documented. He can drive to the basket, handle the ball, post-up, and has a nice outside game. His rebounding and passing skills are also underrated, and given the right system, Harris can blossom into a Top-20 player in this league.
That alone should give Harris tremendous value on the free agent market, but my main concern about Harris is his inconsistency. There are nights where Harris can look like a stud, and others nights where Harris can look like a dud, and that has the Magic a little worried about how he will fit in the long-term picture of the team.
Now, the question that we all should be asking now is if Harris is worth matching any deal that comes his way? No matter what the Magic says in the open, behind closed doors, the front office is questioning whether or not Harris is worth matching a max deal from a desperate team like the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers.
Harris is a rare talent, a 6-foot-9 combo forward who can do virtually anything on the basketball floor. However, he isn’t worth a max deal because consistency means so much in the NBA and Harris needs to prove that he can play well every game.
