The Los Angeles Lakers had one of the worst defenses in the league last season and will need to look to upgrade their rotation with quality defenders. There are several quality defensive prospects who should be available later in the first round, and while they might not be stars, they should develop into good players. Here are five players they should look at with pick No. 27 overall.

5. Delon Wright

Wright can contribute in a variety of ways on offense, but he may be one of the best perimeter defenders in the draft. He has great size and instincts as a point guard which enables him to match up with a variety of players.

4. Robert Upshaw

Upshaw has an extremely high ceiling on defense and could develop into a premier shot-blocker in the league. There are character concerns which could be an issue, especially since the Lakers will likely have a young roster next season.

3. Montrezl Harrell

Harrell will likely be gone by the time the Lakers are on the clock again, but he would be an excellent prospect off of the bench. His high motor and giant wingspan makes him a very good rebounder, and he is not afraid to bring it on the defensive end.

2. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

Hollis-Jefferson has all of the tools to become a lockdown defender in the league. His quickness, athleticism and wingspan allow him to guard anyone on the perimeter. He plays with a lot of heart and would be a good piece to have moving forward.

1. Justin Anderson

Anderson is another very good defensive prospect who just so happens to have developed an impressive three-point shot last season. He might never become a star, but there’s a good chance that he will become a quality small forward in the league.
