LeBron James is the best athlete currently living and breathing on this planet. That much is clear, but could the four-time NBA MVP ever cross over to another sport and dominate in the same fashion? A lot of today’s athletes in major disciplines believe so, and some even think that LeBron could follow in Michael Jordan‘s footsteps and make the transition to baseball, among other pursuits.

“Yeah, I think he is the greatest athlete,” New Orleans Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro said in a recent ESPN article. “I think he can do it all. I just feel like he could translate into every sport. I think he’d be dominant in football. I think he has the hand-eye coordination to play baseball. He’d be good at dodgeball, kickball. If he played soccer, he’d probably be pretty tall, but I feel like he could do that too.”

Chicago Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler also mentioned that he thought James could play America’s pastime quite well.

We’ve all heard the rumors about ‘Space Jam 2‘ coming to fruition one day, but would LeBron consider making the switch to baseball and mirroring MJ’s path in yet another way? I think James is too focused on becoming the best basketball player of all time to switch midcourse towards another sport. However, it would be a fascinating experiment if he tried his hand at baseball or football.

The NFL could be more of a natural change for James because of his history with the game, but we won’t see LeBron make such a risky move. “King James” is averaging 36.6 points, 12.4 rebounds and 8.8 rebounds so far in the NBA Finals, and he is only the second player to get a 40-point triple-double on that stage. The other guy on that list is Jerry West.

As much as we’d all love to watch James shake up the sports landscape by giving it a shot with the Cleveland Indians, fans in Northeast Ohio should be happy with LeBron the way he is. The former MVP may not get Cleveland a championship this season, but it seems inevitable to happen once his supporting cast returns to the fold.

Just don’t expect to catch James in a batting cage anytime soon.
