2015 NBA Draft: 5 Perfect First-Round Fits For Houston Rockets

Houston Rockets 2014 2015
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets fell out of the 2015 NBA Playoffs to the Golden State Warriors, but should return as one of the favorites in the West next season. However, James Harden, Trevor Ariza, Dwight Howard, Patrick Beverly, Terrence Jones and Josh Smith will need some help from the NBA Draft, especially when it comes to depth. Here are the five best first-round fits for the Rockets in the 2015 NBA Draft.

A lot of mock drafts have Jones headed to the Rockets, which would make sense save for the fact that they already have a young PG in Nick Johnson on the roster. Jones would be a good pick, but could be excess to their needs.

No. 4 PF Bobby Portis – Arkansas

Last season’s SEC Player of the Year, Portis is one of the best players in the draft. Expect him to be a player who everyone is clamoring for on draft night.

No. 3 SG R.J. Hunter – Georgia State

I’m not as high on Hunter as most people are, but I do think he'll be a clear starter in the NBA in a few seasons. Who better for him to learn under than James Harden?

No. 2 SG Jerian Grant – Notre Dame

Grant’s decision making can be questionable, but his scoring is not.

No. 1 SF Sam Dekker – Wisconsin

Dekker would come into this team and fit perfectly. Although a bit shorter, his game is reminiscent of Chandler Parsons' game. Oh, except his defense in college looked a lot better.

Watch Rockets' Harrell Shove Referee To The Ground

Houston Rockets rookie Montrezl Harrell is facing discipline after shoving a referee to the ground during a D-League game on Monday night. While Harrell had a right to be angry about being pushed first, there's no excuse for shoving a referee. He could've done serious damage to the guy.

James Harden Decided Against Contesting Russell Westbrook's Dunk

James Harden clearly isn't worried about what people think of his defensive inefficiencies. He proved this to be the case on Tuesday night, as he inexplicably gave Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook a clear lane to the basket after he turned the ball over during this sequence. Harden's a spectacular scorer, but he will likely never give enough effort on both ends to be a Hall of Famer.

Dwight Howard Requests Dab From Young Fan In Exchange For Jersey

Dwight Howard is oftentimes criticized for being a diva, and I'm sure some of it is warranted. However, during Houston's recent trip to Boston, he did something pretty awesome. Howard gave a young Celtics fan his jersey in exchange for a dab, and it clearly made the kid's day.

James Harden Refuses To Play Defense -- Again

James Harden has a terrible reputation when it comes to playing defense. There's no denying what he's capable of offensively, but defending just isn't his cup of tea. He proved this to be the case once again in Houston's matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, and his feeble efforts are simply inexcusable.
