5 Philadelphia 76ers Who Should Be Shown the Door this Offseason

As the 2015 NBA Draft approaches, the Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to figure out what to do with the six picks they currently possess. No strangers to making changes to their roster, the 76ers will need to move on from some current players in order to make room for their new group of draftees. With the 2015 offseason just about to get underway, here are five 76ers players who should be shown the door this offseason.

Acquired in a 2013 trade that was headlined by the 76ers receiving former first round pick Royce White, Furkan Aldemir came over from his native Turkey to join the team in December of last year. In 41 games, Aldemir contributed very little as he averaged 2.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. With a team option worth $2.68 million for next season, the 76ers should cut their losses and move on from this 23-year old power forward.

4. Henry Sims

In his first full season with the team, Henry Sims began the year as the team’s starting center due to the injury of Joel Embiid. However, as the season progressed Sims was moved to the bench after Nerlens Noel was moved from power forward to center. During his tenure, Sims was a solid contributor for the team, but with six picks in this year’s draft the 76ers should move on from Sims in favor of a younger player with more potential.

3. Hollis Thompson

With a team option worth less than $1 million for next season, Hollis Thompson would not put the 76ers in any kind of financial bind. However, after two seasons in Philadelphia, it is clear that Thompson is nothing more than the No. 11 or 12 guy on a good team’s bench. The 76ers may not be a good team right now, but that is what they are building towards. So, if a player like Thompson is not a part of that picture, then why keep him around?

2. Luc Mbah a Moute

After he was first acquired last offseason, many thought Luc Mbah a Moute would only serve as mentor to rookie Joel Embiid, but as the season progressed, Mbah a Moute saw himself playing a major role for the 76ers. Although he started 61 of the 67 games he appeared in last season, Mbah a Moute is 28 years old, and with this team not being ready to compete for a few more seasons, there is no reason to keep him around.

Last season there was very little to feel good about in regards to the 76ers. That is, of course, aside from Jason Richardson, who after missing over two years due to injury, returned to play in 19 games. After spending three seasons in Philadelphia, Richardson has already expressed interest in returning to this young team, but at 34 years of age the 76ers should not waste a roster space on someone who will not be in the league much longer.

Emmanuel Mudiay Devastates Philadelphia 76ers With Buzzer-Beater

The Philadelphia 76ers nearly cemented their fourth road win of the season on Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets. Philadelphia was up two points with just seconds remaining when rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay nailed a prayer shot from outside the arch as time expired to give the Nuggets a one-point victory. The 2015-16 NBA season can't end soon enough for the lowly 76ers, who are now 9-63.
