Orlando Magic Erred in Drafting Mario Hezonja

When Kristaps Porzingis was selected by the New York Knicks, it seemed like it was a sure bet that the Orlando Magic would select Justise Winslow with the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. But instead, the Magic picked Mario Hezonja.

It was a truly puzzling moment for Magic fans.

Winslow would have been a better draft pick as he is a player who can play great defense and great offense, and would have been the perfect fit for Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton.

Nobody really knows about Hezonja, but apparently, the Magic brass thinks highly of him. People know about Porzingis, as he was being described as the next best international player, and would have been backup pick if Winslow would had gone early.

The Magic really squandered this pick, and in such a deep draft one has to wonder how that is even possible.

The way I see it, the Magic are now fully committed with the lineup that they currently have now. It’s not hard to blame them because this lineup is playoff worthy. The Hezonja pick also confirms that the Magic will bring back Tobias Harris, who can be a special player in Scott Skiles’ system.

We’re not going to see Hezonja for quite some time. But with the roster that’s already on hand, Orlando has enough pieces to make a run in the East.
