LeBron James’ Approach To Free Agency Signals Displeasure With David Blatt

Cavaliers David Blatt and LeBron James

David Richard- USA TODAY Sports

LeBron James doesn’t appear to like David Blatt very much. Maybe that is putting it too strongly, but James hasn’t voiced a whole lot of public support for Blatt this offseason.

A recent report by the Northeast Ohio Media Group claims that LeBron will take a “wait-and-see” approach to free agency, which basically means he wants to observe what the Cleveland Cavaliers will do before ultimately signing another one-year deal with a player option for the 2016-17 season.

Will LeBron leave the Cavaliers? I don’t see it happening next season after the Cavs just came two wins away from a championship without Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, but things could change next summer if Cleveland doesn’t meet his expectations this July.

First on James’ wishlist is probably Blatt being replaced. I could see Tyronn Lue or Mark Jackson roaming the sidelines next season for Cleveland, and LeBron would certainly be thrilled by either choice. If the Cavs decide to roll the dice and keep Blatt, then it will be really interesting to see how James approaches things in the summer of 2016.

As far as Love’s possible return, I don’t know why Cleveland would want to let an asset go for nothing, especially when they won’t be able to replace the PF with comparable talent. Now if Love wants to leave for a Western Conference team, then that is his right as a free agent. But I wouldn’t let him go without a fight if I was GM David Griffin.

Blatt’s future in Cleveland looks a lot bleaker than it does for either Griffin or Love, and the Cavaliers better keep their ears open when it comes to LeBron’s wishes because they don’t want to see him leave town once again.

When it comes to basketball, LeBron James is the king. However, when it comes to calling Kyrie Irving's shots, he is a little off. Even King James can be wrong sometimes, right? In other news, the Cavaliers already have a one-game lead in their first playoff series against the Pistons.
