Sacramento Kings Would Still Be Wise to Trade DeMarcus Cousins

Sacramento Kings VP of Operations Vlade Divac has been defiant on not trading DeMarcus Cousins, the team’s temperamental star. But although Divac is sending out the message that Cousins is not readily available for a trade, the VP may soon not have another choice but to trade the big man.

That’s because, in reality, Cousins wants out of Sacramento.

Although he has not said it publically, his quietness on the many trade rumors surrounding him is speaking volumes. And who can really blame him for wanting out of Sacramento? The Kings are squandering his prime by surrounding him with mishmash talent, and constantly being on the outside of the playoffs looking in is beginning to weigh on the big man.

To add insult to injury, he and new head coach George Karl have yet to strike a meaningful relationship, which could be a huge distraction next season if Cousins is not dealt, or if the Kings decide that Karl is not the right man to lead the team back to respectability.

So although it may sound crazy on the surface to deal Cousins, the Kings are on a collision course that may leave them with no other choice but to part ways with him. And Cousins will be more than happy to be on a team that offers more stability and a chance at getting to the postseason on a yearly basis.

The Los Angeles Lakers are still the frontrunners to land Cousins, and the team has a big trade chip to dangle in front of the Kings in D’Angelo Russell, who is expected to be the next great point guard in the league.

So even though nothing happened on NBA draft night, the Kings may still be wise to seek out a trade for Cousins. He would be more than happy to leave the Kings in the rear view mirror, and Sacramento may actually be better off without him.
