Fixing the Cleveland Cavaliers This Offseason in 5 Easy Steps

The Cleveland Cavaliers are back to prominence after “The Chosen One” returned home. But now, every season is championship or bust. Here are five steps the Cavaliers should take so that they can finally end the curse and get a championship to Cleveland.

Varejao played well once LeBron James came back to the Cavaliers this season. He particularly excelled in the pick-and-roll because of his chemistry with James, but with the depth the Cavaliers have in the frontcourt (Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson), Varejao’s near $10 million deal just eats up salary space.

4. Get Everyone Healthy

Kyrie Irving might have been the one who got hurt at the wrong time, but many of Cavaliers played hurt during the playoffs. Iman Shumpert had a groin injury, James had an ankle injury and Love was lost in the first round because his shoulder got injured in a dirty play by a Boston Celtics player. Before a championship can come to Cleveland, everybody needs to be healthy first.

3. Add a Reliable Playmaker

James was the one carrying the load for the Cavaliers once Irving went down. His numbers were astronomical, but no one can consistently make plays for others. Matthew Dellavedova is a solid player, but he doesn't have the experience that a good playmaker has. The Cavaliers may need to trade him and get a point guard or player who can take the load off James.

2. Look for a Reliable Shooter

J.R. Smith might be a good shooter, but he’s far too streaky. When the Cavaliers needed him to make shots and spread the floor for James, he couldn’t do it. The Cavaliers need to get a shooter who is dependable enough to make a 3-pointer and cause teams to pay attention someone other than James. Maybe they can convince Ray Allen to come out of semi-retirement.

1. Re-sign Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson

Even though everyone is harping on the “force” that is Tristan Thompson, James still lost in the Finals. His shooting percentages were also down. James needs Love to spread the floor and make him better, but he also needs Thompson to continue doing what he does best.
