Fixing the Houston Rockets This Offseason In 5 Easy Steps

The Houston Rockets were so close to reaching the finals. But they couldn’t overcome their injuries, the Golden State Warriors or the curse of rapper Lil B. But there are moves the Rockets can make to get better this offseason. Here are five steps the Rockets can take towards fixing their team.

5. Get Healthy

The Rockets played most of the season injured. Dwight Howard missed many games, Patrick Beverley didn’t play in the playoffs and the Rockets were also missing other frontcourt players for much of the year. If they Rockets can just stay healthy, the Rockets should have a good chance to be a top three team in the Western Conference.

4. Acquire a Reliable Scorer

In the playoffs, the game is more physical. James Harden wasn’t the scorer he was in the regular season because he couldn’t get to the line as much (referees weren’t calling as many fouls). The Rockets need a scorer like Monta Ellis who score at any time.

3. Hire a Free Throw Shooting Coach

The league reviewed the “Hack-a-Shaq” strategy and almost decided to change the rules because of how ugly it made the game. Well, the Rockets have three bad free throw shooters in Howard, Josh Smith and Clint Capella. If they want to go far, free throw shooting is the key.

2. Get a Younger Backup Point Guard

With Beverley injured for the playoffs, the Rockets leaned on a 37-year-old Jason Terry and a 38-year-old Pablo Prigioni. When a team is in the Western Conference and there are great point guards everywhere, there has to be a young option that can actually stay with the opponent.

1. Get Another Playmaker

When Josh Smith is your second best playmaker, your team is in trouble. The Rockets need another playmaker to take pressure off Harden. Perhaps they could try to lure Goran Dragic away from the Miami Heat and get him back to his old team.

Iguodala Compares Playing Rockets To A 'Scrimmage In Practice'

The Golden State Warriors didn't need Stephen Curry to defeat the Houston Rockets on Monday night, as they cemented a 115-106 win to take a 2-0 series lead. At halftime, Andre Iguodala was asked about the first half, and compared it to a 'scrimmage in practice' which couldn't have made the Rockets incredibly happy.

Harden Doesn't Care That He's In Playoffs, Still Won't Play D

We all know James Harden isn't known for his defense and is essentially a one-dimensional player. But you would think he'd step up his defensive efforts in the playoffs, right? Wrong. Against the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, Harden was back to his old ways, and got smoked by Harrison Barnes in this video clip.

Watch Rockets' Harrell Shove Referee To The Ground

Houston Rockets rookie Montrezl Harrell is facing discipline after shoving a referee to the ground during a D-League game on Monday night. While Harrell had a right to be angry about being pushed first, there's no excuse for shoving a referee. He could've done serious damage to the guy.

James Harden Decided Against Contesting Russell Westbrook's Dunk

James Harden clearly isn't worried about what people think of his defensive inefficiencies. He proved this to be the case on Tuesday night, as he inexplicably gave Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook a clear lane to the basket after he turned the ball over during this sequence. Harden's a spectacular scorer, but he will likely never give enough effort on both ends to be a Hall of Famer.
