LeBron James Has Biggest Ego In Professional Sports

LeBron James Has Biggest Ego In Professional Sports

LeBron James is currently the best player in the NBA, but he’s allowed that title to go to his head. What other player gets away with ignoring his coach, picking who he wants to play with, and telling his GM who he should give max contracts to? James should go to Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and tell him he wants to be the team’s best player, coach and GM. I’m sure Gilbert would oblige considering how much he needs James to stay in Cleveland.

I’m a huge fan of James as a player, but last year was an embarrassment for his reputation. New head coach David Blatt received zero respect from James during the 2014-15 season. It seemed as if James and the rest of the Cavaliers roster would only listen to assistant coach Tyronn Lue. Blatt didn’t get any credit for helping guide the team to the NBA Finals, and now is on the brink of losing his job because James isn’t a fan of his.

I understand James should have his input on some of the coaching and personnel decisions because the Cavaliers want to keep him happy, but now he’s dangling not returning to Cleveland if Blatt returns. It’s a shameful power move by “King James.”

GM David Griffin, had the biggest impact on the Cavaliers’ 2014-15 season, as he made two trades early in the year to acquire Timofey Mozgov, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert. Although Griffin is the GM, he had to get James’ approval on bringing Smith to the team. Prior to these two trades, James was pouting, lackadaisical and not giving max effort because he believed the team was too flawed to win an NBA title. After the trades, James magically became the same player he was in Miami.

James has said on numerous occasions that Tristan Thompson deserves a max contract from the Cavaliers, and if the team doesn’t give him one, it may sway his decision to stay. I love Thompson’s game. He’s the best offensive rebounder in the NBA, blocks shots and provides great energy, but he doesn’t deserve a max deal. If Griffin decides to cave, that would give the Cavaliers four players on max contracts if Kevin Love returns.

Love returning is another thing I don’t understand. I know James wants bigs who don’t clog up the lane and can knock down open jumpers, but Love obviously had trouble fitting with James and Kyrie Irving. There was never any chemistry, and Love seemed to have a problem taking a backseat to the Cavaliers’ other two stars. The fact that there are reports that Love has told the Cavaliers he’s returning means that James must have signed off on the move, which baffles me even more.

As James sits and observes as a free agent, I wouldn’t be surprised if he breaks Cleveland’s heart once again if Griffin and Gilbert don’t give into every one of his demands. The Cavaliers are in a no-win situation. There’s no way they can afford to lose James, but giving into him will only make his ego bigger and demands more frequent.

James has gone from the NBA’s biggest superstar to the NBA’s biggest prima donna.
