If anyone ever doubted that Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan would be reluctant to open the checkbook for free agency, he put all those doubts to rest on Monday. Hennigan told the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic are ready to pay the cost to bring in free agents who will help get the team back into the thick of things in the East.

This is an encouraging sign for Orlando fans, but although Hennigan is ready to whip out the credit card and spend, there will be some hurdles. Looming over Orlando’s free agent desires is Tobias Harris, and what the team intends to do with his restricted free agency will play a huge part in how the Magic will spend this offseason.

But regardless of how the Harris situation plays out, the Magic will be in the mix for free agents. The team needs to focus on are shooters who can help spread the floor, and versatile players who can help out the second unit. Danny Green would be a great fit, as he has evolved into one of the NBA’s best 3-point marksmen, and could be a tremendous asset in the second unit.

Another player Orlando should focus on is Derrick Williams. Although he has had a disappointing career so far, he began to finally find his NBA game late last season with the Sacramento Kings. His relentless energy could be a spark for the Magic next season.

Whatever Orlando decides to do, it is comforting that the Magic are finally dedicating their resources to building a winner.
