Kevin Love Makes Mistake Signing With Cleveland Cavaliers

Kevin Love has agreed to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers after signing a five-year, $110 million contract on Wednesday. As great as Love is, this move doesn’t make any sense for him as a player. Last season, he was visibly frustrated by taking a backseat to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving after spending the first six years of his career as the star of the Minnesota Timberwolves. If he’s not comfortable with his role and doesn’t want to be the third wheel, why would he sign up for five more years?

Love had interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics where he would have had a more significant role, but now all of sudden he’s fine being the third option. If he would have signed with the Lakers, Love would have been returning to his home and could have helped return the NBA’s most-storied franchise to prominence. With the Celtics, he would’ve been the go-to option for a team on the rise and would’ve been able to return the same player he was with the Timberwolves. In Houston, Love would’ve gotten a tax-free deal and would’ve been a part of a Rockets team that was Western Conference finalists last season, despite not having many scoring options outside of James Harden.

The only reason to justify the decision is that he realized his best chance to win a championship is to stay with the Cavaliers. If that’s true, then we better not hear him complain about his role from this day forward. Love is a superstar-quality player, but signing this contract means that he’s perfectly content with being a role player for the next five years. If not, then it’s going to be a long half-a-decade for Cavaliers fans.
