The Atlanta Hawks are continuing to strike it big in the 2015 NBA free agency period. They have already added Tim Hardaway Jr., Tiago Splitter and retained Paul Millsap, and have now added a big man in Walter Tavares.

Tavares is a huge get for the Hawks. He was the second-round pick of the Hawks just last season. Many people believed that he wouldn’t come over to the NBA this season. There were even some who believed that he would never come over at all. He was making good money, and his entire family was over there. I think the most interesting part is that he could have gotten quite a bit more money to stay in the Euroleagues, with a much bigger role too.

I think this means fans have almost certainly seen the last of Mike Scott in a Hawks uniform, which will make many pretty sad. However, it’s a necessary sacrifice for the direction the Hawks are going in. It was basically between Mike Muscala and Scott for that roster spot, and Muscala has many things going in his direction to tip the scales in his favor.

What remains to be seen is whether or not the Hawks will elect to keep both Splitter and Tavares. It’s hard to imagine both players being happy, because neither will get the minutes they’ll want wanting. That said, it seems like a good problem for the Hawks.
