After a quiet first day of NBA free agency, the Indiana Pacers have finalized a contract with their No. 1 target. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Pacers and guard Monta Ellis have agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract.

Head coach Frank Vogel, Larry Bird, and other Pacers executives met with Ellis at a downtown Indianapolis steakhouse on Wednesday night. The high-scoring guard clearly liked what he heard because despite having several other teams interested in acquiring his services, Ellis agreed to sign without taking any other visits.

Ellis, 29, has been a dynamic scorer throughout his 10-year career after being drafted out of high school in the second round by the Golden State Warriors in 2005. The 6-foot-3 offguard has been a 20-plus point type of scorer since his third year in the league and led the Dallas Mavericks in scoring last season with 18.9 points per game.

Ellis will give Vogel and the Pacers another scoring option outside of Paul George. Indiana desperately needed a player who could create their own shot and score when the offense breaks down, and that’s exactly what Ellis brings to the table.
