Things are not looking up right now for the Los Angeles Clippers after they received word that DeAndre Jordan would be leaving them to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. It was a major disappointment and leaves the franchise wondering where to go from here. They are going to have a hard time finding Jordan’s replacement, but Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports was able to cheer them up and excite them a bit by speculating about free agency next offseason.

Kevin Durant struggled with injuries throughout all of last season, but is ready to get back on the floor and earn a major contract during the 2015-16 season. He may end up staying with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but there has been growing belief that he would be willing to leave if a better situation presented itself.

Needless to say, signing Durant would make the Clippers and their fans thankful that they weren’t able to get a maximum contract done with Jordan. He would completely change the landscape of the Western Conference, and the Clippers would become favorites to win the NBA Finals immediately. Having a “Big Three” of Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and Durant would make them look almost like a video game starting lineup.

Last season during the 27 games that Durant ended up playing with the Thunder, he ended up averaging 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.

It is certainly intriguing to think about for the Clippers and their fans, and something to keep them entertained throughout the course of the 2015-16 season. Durant is going to be one of the most highly sought after free agents that the NBA has seen for quite some time, and the Clippers won’t be the only team with lots of cap space to spend. That being said, the draw of L.A. and the talent that they have on their roster will be difficult for him to turn down.

Expect to hear more rumors come out about Durant heading to the Clippers throughout the course of the next year. He will also have quite a few other rumors to deal with as well. Los Angeles certainly seems like a perfect fit for Durant, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Doc Rivers get him locked up when everything is said and done.
