The Los Angeles Lakers have lost out on big names in free agency. Jimmy Butler, DeMarre Carroll, Draymond Green and Kevin Love have signed elsewhere. It appears that Robin Lopez will sign with the New York Knicks over the Lakers. The Lakers are supposed to have their second meeting with LaMarcus Aldridge, but it’s unlikely that he will sign with the Lakers. DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol are longshots to sign with the Lakers as well.

So, what do the Lakers do now? Los Angeles must make a hard push for Tobias Harris. The 22-year old averaged 17.1 PPG and 6.3 RPG. The Lakers would have to offer near max contract money to land him. Harris could fill either forward spot, and would play small forward alongside Julius Randle. Harris has All-Star potential and will be a terrific fit on a young Lakers team.

The Lakers are missing bigs even with a Harris signing. They will have to look at keeping Jordan Hill, and they will have to go after Kosta Koufos. Koufos averaged 5.2 PPG and 5.3 RPG in 16.6 MPG, but the numbers don’t tell the story as he was used as a defensive anchor off the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies. He didn’t have much of an opportunity to put up significant numbers with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph down low.

The Lakers will also have to target some more free agents to fill out the roster. Corey Brewer and Dorell Wright are good wing options who can defend and provide some scoring off the bench.

If the Lakers were to land Harris and Koufos, they won’t be a contender, but they will be in the mix for the final playoff spot in the West. They would also have some cap space in 2016 for when Kevin Durant, Andre Drummond, Al Horford, Hassan Whiteside and Joakim Noah are free agents.
