Los Angeles Lakers Make Wrong Decision Signing Lou Williams
Tom Szcerzbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers have finally convinced a free agent to sign with the team. The NBA‘s 2014-2015 Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams, has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Lakers for three-years and $21 million. After striking out on so many free agents, the Lakers continued to throw money at players until someone agreed to take the cash. Finally, Williams did, but his presence does nothing but create complications for the Lakers.

Williams is a tremendous scorer off the bench, and he averaged a career-high 15.5 points per contest last season for the season for the Toronto Raptors. The problem with Williams is all he does is score. He’s not a distributor and he’s a liability defensively. Williams is also most successful with the ball in his hands, which is why I believe this is a terrible signing for the Lakers.

With Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, and D’Angelo Russell already on the roster, adding a player like Williams makes absolutely no sense. Russell is the only true distributor of the four, and having all four guys on the team will create a lot of dribbling and one-on-one action which will do nothing but cause problems. The Lakers would’ve been better off re-signing Jeremy Lin instead of Williams, because at least he passes the ball.

There’s no way the Lakers can be successful with so many players who dominate the basketball. Hopefully, the Williams signing at least means that Young will be on the move elsewhere, otherwise there’s going to a power struggle in Los Angeles like no other, and it won’t matter who wins because the Lakers will be the ultimate losers.
