Cleveland Cavaliers Rumors Jamal Crawford Exactly What Team Needs
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Reports are saying that the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in making a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers for sixth man Jamal Crawford. The Cavaliers need to improve their bench play from last season, and acquiring Crawford would accomplish that and more. Crawford is one of the best in the NBA at coming off the bench and instantly finding his rhythm offensively. With his addition, things would become much easier for the starters.

The Cavaliers had trouble finding ways to get LeBron James rest, especially towards the end of the season. With Crawford, James would be able to accrue more rest, in turn becoming much stronger towards the end of games. Head coach David Blatt could mix and match with Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving, Crawford and James. He can put two or three on the floor at the same time while one or two are getting rest, and not lose a bit of production.

The other option would be to let Crawford be the captain of the second unit, and allow the big three to rest at the same time. Any way you slice it, Crawford would be a tremendous addition to the Cavaliers, giving the team another knock-down shooter to replace J.R. Smith, who declined his player option for 2015-16.

From the Clippers’ perspective, trading Crawford doesn’t make much sense. The team already lost DeAndre Jordan, and traded Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes. If Crawford is traded, it would essentially leave the team with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick and Paul Pierce, which wouldn’t be enough to make the playoffs in a crowded Western Conference.

It’s obvious the Cavaliers are exhausting all options to try and win the NBA championship in 2015-16, as the organization realizes that the window is closing on the team’s chances of winning a title with James. With the addition of LaMarcus Aldridge to the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors‘ roster staying intact, the team needs as much help as possible.
