Lamarcus Aldridge isn’t the only frontcourt improvement for the San Antonio Spurs this season. According to TNT’s David Aldridge, veteran forward David West is going to be joining him in San Antonio.

West is 35 years old, but he’s going to be a huge presence that deepens the team’s depth chart. He adds yet another skilled post player to a roster that’s now overloaded with them, and his steadily-improving passing will gel with the system. He adds more range and floor spacing, which will allow Aldridge and Tim Duncan to see a similar defensive look even when their counterpart isn’t on the court with them.

As Greg Popovich tweaks the system to cater to Aldridge, he’ll be grateful for West’s presence in the second lineup, which will make for a smoother transition for everyone.

With 12 years of experience and no taste of the ultimate basketball glory, West will also inject fresh competitive drive into a roster that is packed full of NBA players who have already won championships. That kind of desperate will to win is something the Spurs severely lacked last year.

He’s got the fundamentals, the skill and the desire to give the Spurs everything they need in a frontcourt backup, and will be a major improvement over Aron Baynes, who signed with the Detroit Pistons. The Spurs will also have to add another guard to the roster before the end of summer, after Cory Joseph and Marco Belinelli made their departure in the recent weeks.

However, it’s already settled with the additions of Aldridge and West. The San Antonio Spurs are your 2015 NBA offseason champions.
