At 39 years old, Kevin Garnett has little to prove in the NBA. However, his passion for the game of basketball won’t allow him to retire. Garnett’s re-signed to a two-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Garnett broke into the NBA with the Timberwolves all the way back in 1995, having skipped college and started in the pros as a teenager. Now, 20 seasons later, he’ll be as important to the development of the Timberwolves franchise as he was then as he attempts to provide invaluable veteran leadership to an incredibly young roster.

Exact terms regarding this deal have yet to be released, but it’s fair to assume this isn’t about money for Garnett. Regardless of how his time in Minnesota ended initially back in 2007, the organization has always remained incredibly important to Garnett, as he publicly expressed that he’d like to finish his career in Minnesota numerous times. After being acquired late last season, Garnett appeared to relish being back in Minnesota, so the news today makes complete sense.

Minnesota drafted former Kentucky standout Karl-Anthony Towns at No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft just two weeks ago. From a strictly size perspective, Towns and Garnett are the same person, both at 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds. However, Minnesota can only hope Garnett can help groom Towns into the next Garnett.

If there’s anyone who can, however, Garnett is probably the guy to call on.
