DeAndre Jordan is playing with fire right now. He agreed to an $80 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, but is having second thoughts and wants back with the Los Angeles Clippers, which significantly hurts his image.

The NBA‘s moratorium period prevented this deal from officially being inked and the Clippers have taken advantage of that. Los Angeles caught wind that Jordan was second-guessing his decision and they immediately pounced, setting up a meeting with the center in Houston. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and head coach Doc Rivers brought a contingent that included key players like Chris PaulBlake Griffin and Paul Pierce.

It must be understood that professional sports are a business, but the Clippers have sort of broken an unwritten rule. It is pretty unprecedented in the NBA for a team to actively seek out a player after he’s already agreed to a deal with another team.

While this whole situation may not be the best look for the Clippers organization, it is an even worse look for DeAndre Jordan. He is an adult, and he made the adult decision to spurn his former team for a lesser contract with the Mavericks. It appeared as though his decision potentially had something to do with some tensions in the Clippers locker room.

Apparently those rumors aren’t entirely accurate if the big man is strongly considering going back to Los Angeles. If Jordan reneges on the original deal, he is likely to lose respect amongst his peers and others in the NBA circle.

Jordan obviously made the wrong decision by signing with Dallas, but he should have to deal with the consequences of his actions. You can’t go back on your word, DeAndre.
