After an incredibly exhausting saga that DeAndre Jordan put the Dallas Mavericks and NBA fans everywhere through, it appears as if we finally have some clarity. Jordan has decided to abandon his agreement with the Mavericks and return to the Los Angeles Clippers.

While he did fully operate within the guidelines of free agency, what Jordan did to the Mavericks is nothing short of cowardly. At some point over the past week, it must have sunk in that a move to Dallas would mean he’d be the top dog. And it appears on the surface as if that ultimately scared Jordan, despite his claims that it was exactly what he wanted all along.

This cannot be about winning a ring, as we all know the Clippers are still a long ways away from having a championship-caliber team. Instead, Jordan chose the easy route: One where he’d still receive a lucrative pay day, yet not carry around half the burden of pressure as he would have in Dallas.

Jordan’s put the Mavericks in a terribly unfortunate spot. Had Mark Cuban and company not been so sure they’d cemented Jordan’s services, I’m sure they would have approached the past week very differently, and looked to sign other players. Now, all of the significant free agents have new homes, and Dallas is still in need of a starting center.

There’s no other way to say it: Jordan should be ashamed of the way he handled this situation.
