Larry Bird went into the draft looking to land a big man in the first round, and he was able to accomplish that by selecting Texas Longhorns big man Myles Turner. The Indiana Pacers were then hoping to get an impact player in the second round, which they were also successful in doing by selecting the Oregon Ducks dynamic scoring guard Joseph Young.

Young was one of the most lethal scorers in college basketball last season, and the Pacers desperately needed some help in their back-court. There is a good chance that he will end up being a role player for Indiana during the 2015-16 season. He will likely end up playing the point guard position in the NBA, but could see some time at shooting guard as well throughout the year.

During the 2014-15 season with the Ducks, Young ended up averaging 20.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. He shot 44.8 percent from the field overall and knocked down 35.7 percent of his three-point attempts.

Now, he is ready to go out on the NBA floor and prove that he is capable of doing big things for the team that decided to give him a chance.

“It was very frustrating knowing that I was the sleeper of the draft, but I kept my composure and kept God first and controlled what I could control. I’m very excited to be a Pacer and knowing that the people in this organization really like me and want me around for a long period of time is a blessing.”

There are quite a few question marks about what Young will bring to the NBA, and he was more than happy to explain his game and who he is as a person as well.

“My game is an all-around game, and I can do anything the game has to offer, but also I’m a team guy and a good role model and leader. I’m a good guy with good character that loves to see smiles on kids faces and on the faces of Pacers fans. It’s my job to make sure that we have a spark coming off the bench and helping the vets.”

Confidence is something that Young does not lack, and he compared himself to two very good current NBA players.

Stephen Curry is all I watch and a little Monta Ellis. I put those two players’ games into one.”

One of the perks to playing for the Pacers is the fact that players can sit down and talk to one of the greatest NBA legends of all-time. Bird is able to give quite a bit of knowledge to players that want it and Young has already taken advantage of that opportunity.

“He is a great role model to this game and every word that comes out of his mouth I store in my brain because it’s all valuable information and it’s amazing to learn and get advice from an NBA legend that loves your game a lot.”

There is a good chance that he could be the primary backup point guard for the Pacers if nothing else changes in the back-court, and that would be a very important role for the Pacers’ playoff chances. Young is ready for that type of a stage, and he would be exactly the type of bench scorer that Indiana has been searching for over the past couple years.
