The Charlotte Hornets were a major disappointment last season and have been very busy retooling their roster for the 2015-16 NBA season. Jeremy Lin is their latest addition, and they were very happy that they were able to snag him. It isn’t one of the most hyped signings, but it is one that helps the Hornets be considered as a legitimate playoff threat in the Eastern Conference.

Last season with the Lakers, Lin was a bit inconsistent due to having issues with fitting into his role alongside of Kobe Bryant. Lin ended up averaging 11.2 points, 4.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. He shot 42.4 percent from the field overall and 36.9 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those numbers don’t look amazing, but for only starting 34 games in 70 games played, it wasn’t a bad season for him at all.

Looking back deeper into the past, Lin is best known for his “Linsanity” days with the New York Knicks. He put up multiple big games and burst onto the NBA scene quickly out of nowhere. It was one of the league’s biggest stories, and that is exactly what he will bring back to the table for the Hornets.

At 26 years old, Lin is just entering the prime of his career. He has gained quite a bit of experience over the last few seasons and is ready to explode once again and prove himself to the league as Kemba Walker‘s backup.

There couldn’t have been a better fit for Lin than signing with an up-and-coming team like the Hornets, and he will be the change of pace point guard that Charlotte needed last season. Walker is a much more athletic and faster-paced point guard who focuses on scoring the basketball himself. Lin will be the true point guard of the two, and bring a fast pace with the ability to knock down shots and more willingness to make plays for his teammates.

Charlotte hasn’t had a point guard with the ability to balance his scoring and playmaking as well as Lin does in quite some time.

Whether Lin will be able to put up huge numbers off the bench or not is another question, but when he is on the court he will bring a lot of excitement with him. There will be nights where he is absolutely unstoppable and shows the “Linsanity” side of him, and there will be others where he doesn’t put up big numbers but is still consistent. The Hornets don’t need him to come out with huge performances every night, but they do need consistency every night.

Lin may not be talked about as a big pickup right now, but he will be viewed as one of the biggest additions when the season is over. The Hornets and their fans are going to see a very special version of Lin, and he will prove that his big performances back with the Knicks were not a fluke.
