The Los Angeles Lakers had a difficult offseason, unable to attract any elite free-agents, but they did do a good job of adding young talent who give them hope for the future. Many of these players will be on display during the summer league, giving fans an early look of what is to come. Their summer league roster is filled with players who should compete for valuable minutes this season, and has its fair share of star potential.

Perhaps the best player on the floor was Jordan Clarkson, who was exciting in the open court and showed confidence in his outside shot. He also displayed an ability to play next to D’Angelo Russell, and those two may see significant time together next season. Russell filled the stat sheet, as he looked very composed on the ball and used his savvy court vision that has drawn so many admirers. Julius Randle was the other big name out there for the Lakers, and although he struggled with finishing and turnovers, it was good to see him on the court healthy. He was good beating his man off of the dribble, and even displayed some bounce with some emphatic finishes.

The team also got solid efforts from their role players, including Tarik Black who showed some spring in his step and rebounded the ball very well. Anthony Brown also saw a lot of minutes, and his activity on defense could be useful for a team with a lack of perimeter defenders. Larry Nance Jr. did not look as strong, as he was a step slower than everyone and looked lost at times. Dwight Buycks played with some bite on defense, as did Robert Upshaw who battled with Karl-Anthony Towns and even blocked several shots. Tony Mitchell also saw the court, and showed good hustle although he appears to be a long shot to make the team.

The Lakers were unable to get the win, but there was plenty of excitement as their younger prospects took the floor. They were pushing the ball up the floor with purpose, and seemed intent on putting on a show for the crowd. It was promising to see guys like Clarkson, Russell, and Randle playing together, as they are likely the future of the organization. There is a good chance that a handful of these players will see important minutes next season, and this summer league will be one to keep an eye on for Lakers fans.
