Forward Gerald Green recently agreed to a one-year deal with the Miami Heat, and they have come out of this offseason looking pretty good. I’m sure there were moments when Pat Riley was worried that Dwyane Wade might leave town, but the Heat now must be considered a threat to win the Eastern Conference. It is partly due to the weakness of that particular conference; however, the Heat deserve a lot of credit for turning around a summer that looked like it might end in disaster.

Green averaged 11.9 points and 1.2 assists per game last season with the Phoenix Suns, which was impressive because that production came mostly off of the bench. In Miami, he will likely get the opportunity to start depending on how quickly Justise Winslow is ready to contribute.

Green will be the perfect complement to Wade, because we all know how much Dwyane loves to dominate the ball and Green thrives by running without it on fast breaks. Obviously, Chris Bosh returning from injury will also be huge for the Heat, and Riley has to love the way things have shaken out for his team this summer. Green will give them plenty of lineup options when it comes to defensive flexibility, and it would be absolutely amazing to see them face LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs.

The Heat have a great opportunity this year to be a contender out East, and Riley has certainly set his franchise back on the right course.
