If there were ever an NBA team to feel sorry for throughout the 2015 free agency period, then it has to be the Dallas Mavericks. After initially convincing All-Star center DeAndre Jordan to come sign with the Mavericks for a four-year, $88 million deal, the seven-year veteran abruptly changed his mind and decided to stay with the franchise that drafted him back in 2008, the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Mavericks based much of their free agency pursuits on the acquisition of Jordan, and once that fell through, they had to scramble to fill in the many voids that are now on this roster. The Mavericks’ top free agent signings were none other than Wesley Matthews and Deron Williams, with both players projected to be placed right into the starting lineup. Outside of Matthews and Williams, the Mavericks managed to sign veteran center Zaza Pachulia to fill the void in the paint from losing Tyson Chandler in free agency as well.

The Mavericks could potentially have a very rough season based on the franchise missing out on many of the top free agents, plus the fact that the team also plays in the very competitive Western Conference. A starting lineup of Williams, Matthews, Chandler Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki and Pachulia will win 40-45 games at best, and that is being generous. The fact is, Mavericks management once again swung for the fences in free agency and whiffed horribly. With an aging Nowitzki on the roster and an ill-tempered owner like Mark Cuban, not many players want to come to Dallas.
