The Orlando Magic have tinkered with their roster this offseason in the hopes of crashing the playoff party next season, and that means that there should be a new and improved starting five that should compete with the best the Eastern Conference has to offer. Here is what we think the projected starting five for the Magic will be next season.

Payton earned his starting position last year as he displayed the tools that should make him one of the top 10 lead guards in the NBA in the next couple of years. With an improved outside shot, look for him to be a 15 point/eight assist player.

Some critics have said that Oladipo would serve Orlando better off the bench, but I beg to differ. He is a rising star in this league, and playing in his natural two-guard spot full time should enable him to fill the stat sheet next season.

Small Forward: Mario Hezonja

Some are penciling him in as a second-unit guy, but Mario has the tools to be a starter right now, and Scott Skiles would not be at fault with putting him in the starting line-up. Orlando needs a deadly shooter, and Hezonja can deliver.

You don’t pay a rare talent like Harris $64 million and have him sitting on the bench. Harris would be ideal in this lineup as a stretch four, a player who can create opportunities inside while keeping the defense honest with his perimeter game. Defense may be a problem, but that is one Skiles can rectify.

Center: Nikola Vucevic

With Roy Hibbert now out West, Vucevic can take the next step next season and become the best big man in the East. His offensive skills are limitless, and he will be the guy the Magic go to whenever they need a big hoop. If he can work on his rim protection, then it’s a wrap.
